A major breakthrough has been achieved for the long-stalled Xiangcheng Blueberry Hotel Project. The state-owned assets group of Xiangcheng County, located in Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, has officially acquired ownership of the 73,256.51 square meters of core assets through a public auction, transferring them to state ownership.
The long-idle project, situated in the county's prime central area, is slated for transformation into the first Tibetan-style, government-supporting mixed commercial complex in Garzê. Since construction halted in 2014, the project has accumulated debts totaling 588 million yuan, with assets subjected to cross-jurisdictional seizures by multiple courts, extensive loss of original documentation, and a complex web of debt disputes. These factors deterred private investment, leaving the project in a prolonged deadlock.
In response to this formidable challenge, the county's party committee and government prioritized public welfare, adopting a proactive and responsible approach. Over the past five years, a dedicated task force methodically assessed the asset situation, strengthened collaboration between government and courts, lawfully advanced bankruptcy liquidation, stripped away substantial historical debts, and lifted restrictions such as seizures and mortgages. This year, the county's state-owned assets group secured the project's core assets through public auction, completely severing the previous debt risks.
"Acquiring the assets is just the first step, but we have finally taken the most critical one," a relevant official stated. This marks a substantive resolution of a historical issue that had persisted for twelve years, finally granting the long-awaited project a definitive future for local residents. The news has sparked relief and optimism among the community, with many expressing that the building is finally being managed and that the county town will soon have a proper commercial center.
According to the plans, the site will be developed into a "Tibetan Homestead Reception Hall" — an urban public space integrating government offices, conference and training facilities, talent apartments, supermarket shopping, specialty dining, and leisure entertainment. The inclusion of cultural amenities such as a workers' cultural palace, an intangible cultural heritage exhibition hall, and a cinema will bring convenient, high-quality public services directly to residents' doorsteps.
Transitioning from a property "no one dared to touch" to one "taken over by state capital," and from an overgrown site to a blueprint for the future, Xiangcheng County is now set to proceed with orderly renovation, construction, and commercial operation. By delivering tangible changes, the county aims to fulfill its commitments to the people. After twelve years of waiting, this formerly stalled project is emerging from urban blight to become a new landmark that witnesses development and benefits the community.
