Simcere Pharmaceutical Group Limited (“Simcere Pharma”) announced that SANBEXIN® (Edaravone and Dexborneol Concentrated Solution for Injection) was officially included in the National Essential Medicines List (2026 Edition) on 9 July 2026. Under China’s essential-medicine regulations, public medical institutions nationwide must stock and give priority to drugs on the list, significantly widening market access for SANBEXIN® beyond Class Grade III Type A hospitals to county-level and primary healthcare facilities.

Approved in July 2020, SANBEXIN® has been covered by the National Reimbursement Drug List since December 2020, with inclusion renewed in November 2024. Two Phase III trials—TASTE (non-thrombectomy population) and TASTE-2 (thrombectomy-combined population)—showed that the therapy improved functional independence at Day 90 for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients, while maintaining a favorable safety profile.

SANBEXIN® is currently the only brain-cell protectant carrying a Class IIa recommendation in China’s Guidelines for Clinical Management of Cerebrovascular Diseases (Second Edition). Since launch, it has reached over 6 million AIS patients, reinforcing Simcere Pharma’s position in neurological therapeutics.

Simcere Pharma remains focused on neuroscience, oncology, autoimmune, and anti-infective areas, supported by its State Key Laboratory of Neurology and Oncology Drug Development and multiple strategic research collaborations.
