Hong Kong dollar interbank offered rates (HIBOR) displayed a mixed performance on August 31, with short-term and long-term rates moving in opposite directions.
The one-month HIBOR, which serves as a key benchmark for mortgage rate calculations, held steady at 2.85000%, showing no change from the previous session. Meanwhile, the three-month rate, often viewed as a gauge of banks' funding costs, edged up by 1.089 basis points to 3.01964%.
At the short end of the curve, the overnight rate surged by 67.393 basis points to 4.09857%. In contrast, the one-week rate dipped by 0.172 basis points to 3.23024%, and the two-week rate fell by 1.297 basis points to 2.91899%. The two-month rate increased by 0.803 basis points to 2.95071%.
For longer tenors, the six-month rate climbed by 2.161 basis points to 3.22679%, while the one-year rate rose by 0.904 basis points to 3.51470%.
