Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee has earmarked HK$50 million from the disaster relief fund for urgent relief operations, following a devastating mudslide on the Nepalese side that caused significant casualties and missing persons at the Gyirong Port in Gyirong County, Shigatse, Tibet, on August 29.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Lee confirmed that the funding has been reserved to facilitate immediate disaster response efforts. The Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee will expedite the processing of funding applications to ensure timely assistance reaches those affected.

The mudslide, which originated from Nepal's territory, has led to a substantial loss of life and left many unaccounted for at the border crossing, prompting urgent humanitarian action from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.
