On August 28, the first batch of internship positions under the 2026 University Student Sci-Tech Internship Program was officially released, jointly launched by the regional Association for Science and Technology and the regional Department of Human Resources and Social Security. A total of 130 positions have been collected, open to graduates who have not found employment within two years of leaving school, as well as to 2026 prospective graduates. This marks a substantive step forward in the pilot phase of the region's university student sci-tech internship initiative.

Unlike conventional employment internships, this program is closely aligned with the talent demands of the technology sector, offering five categories of roles: academic assistant, science communication assistant, editorial assistant, international affairs assistant, and innovation assistant. These positions are established at local science associations, academic societies at various levels, science museums, journal editorial offices, international sci-tech organizations, and science associations within enterprise parks. The internship content focuses on professional tasks such as organizing academic exchanges, planning science outreach content, copyediting sci-tech journals, handling international liaison matters, and facilitating industry-academia-research collaboration. Each host institution assigns experienced mentors in proportion to the number of interns for hands-on guidance.

In terms of compensation and support, interns receive multiple layers of benefits: the human resources and social security department issues an employment internship subsidy based on the local minimum wage standard, while the host institution provides an additional position allowance of no less than 50% of that standard. Relevant authorities will also arrange group personal accident insurance and pre-employment physical examinations for all interns.

"A sci-tech internship is not just about running errands; it's about letting graduates develop professional skills in real-world science and technology work environments," said a representative from the regional Association for Science and Technology. Under equal conditions, preference will be given to graduates with experience in science associations or science volunteer services, as well as those from low-income families or zero-employment households. The internship period generally lasts from 3 to 12 months, and outstanding performers may be retained by the host institution.

Registration for the sci-tech internship positions is now fully underway. Eligible graduates can log onto the "University Student Sci-Tech Internship Platform" (https://kjjxjh-kc.cast.org.cn) to complete registration, identity verification, and an online test. Once their graduation institution completes the preliminary review, they can independently select their preferred positions and submit their applications through the system.
