Malaysia's Producer Inflation Accelerates to 9.7% in July

The Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production in Malaysia rose 9.7% year over year in July, according to data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia released on Friday.

The latest reading accelerated from the 9.2% increase in the previous month.

The year-over-year momentum was driven primarily by the mining sector, which expanded by 30.5%, and the manufacturing sector, which jumped 8.2%.

The agriculture, forestry & fishing sector increased by 0.7% in July, while the electricity and gas supply index recorded a marginal increase of 0.1%, and the water supply index declined by 1.4%.

On a month-over-month basis, the headline PPI rose 0.7% compared with a 0.6% expansion in the prior period.
