Services activity in India expanded in August, with the HSBC India Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) growing/falling to 54.1 from 53.3 in the previous month, according to data compiled by S&P Global and released on Thursday.
The reading beat/missed the consensus forecast of 54.5 tracked by Investing.com. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector, while a figure below signals a contraction.
Stronger output and new business activity supported the services sector during the month, but the overall pace was still the weakest in more than four years, HSBC Chief India Economist Pranjul Bhandari said.
