Ford Motor is recalling certain 2024-to-2026 Mustang vehicles due to a wiring harness ground connection issue that increases the risk of a crash.

The affected vehicles' compartment wiring harness ground connections may fracture and result in a loss of drive power, or a loss of function in the windshield washing system, headlights, air conditioning or engine cooling fan, according to a report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ford estimates that the number of vehicles with the defect total about 1% of the 148,663 vehicles that are potentially involved.

Dealers will replace the engine compartment wiring harness ground terminals free of charge.

Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed out Monday. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available from dealer, which is anticipated in March 2027.

Heat shrink that can result in broken wiring harness ground eyelets was added to the harness beginning with the 2024 model year production, with corrective actions introduced in June of this year.

Ford's team reviewed vehicle assembly plant production records to determine the population of affected vehicles.
